In 2014, GM had to face the liability from a defective ignition switch
in its Chevrolet Cobalt and other models. Great costs and apologies were
part of the process. As of 2019, the matter was still unsettled with GM
reportedly having spent $2.5 billion to settle and an eventual $1
billion settlement being negotiated.
